In May 2016 I participated in a 400km ultra-run in Northern Scotland, which went on the classic Cape Wrath Trail. I used the opportunity to take pictures and was very lucky with sunny conditions. I took 2 cameras with me: A Canon 5dsR with 70-200mm f4 lens and a Sony A7R2 with 16-35mm f4 lens.
I was also happy to finish this ultra at rank 32 out of 95 starters. It was a very tough run for me without any preparation and as a consequence I ended with a feet injury.

The Laugavegur trail in Iceland is one of my favorite places in Europe. I spent there several times as a hiker and also as a runner in one of my favorite ultra-runs, the Laugavegur-Ultra. In December 2013/ January 2014 I experienced one of my best solo hikes ever when surrounding beautiful Cerro Torre via the Southern Patagonian Icefield. A detailed, interesting description of that adventure and the preparations you will find on Spanish Highs supporting solo Patagonia Icefield Trek. It was very fascinating walking on the endless ice field and experiencing the lenticular cloud formations that develop very often on the ice field! Cerro Torre and Cerro Fitzroy are definitely candidates for the most beautiful mountains on our planet earth!
For more pictures please visit my gallery Patagonian Icefield.
If I had to select one favorite mountain on earth than I would go for Cerro Torre! That mountain distinguishes itself through its beauty from all sides and is more or less not climbable for the "man of the street". Sometimes a lot of patience is needed to actually see that mountain, which is usually hidden more than 250 days a year by clouds coming from the Patagonian Icefield! Circo de los Altares was one of my best camp sites in my life with stunning views to impressive mountains and additionally having the feeling of the endless Patagonian Icefield.
I can highly recommend the film "Cerro Torre - A snowball's chance in hell!"!
Fore more pictures please visit my gallery Cerro Torre.
Cerro Fitzroy (3406m) is the highest mountain in the National Park Los Glaciares in Patagonia. It is both for climbers and photographers easier to deal with than Cerro Torre and very often impressive cloud formations develop from the Patagonian Icefield. I highly recommend this area for hiking and photography and even for non-experienced hikers most trails are easily dealt with.
